A whirlpool of reactions has continued to trail Brazil’s exit from the ongoing World Cup tournament in Qatar, following an embarrassing defeat to Croatians.
Heavily favoured to win the tournament, the Selecao went into the match with its array of stars led by Paris-Sait-Germain forward Neymar JR and captain Thiago Silva.
But in a stunning fashion, the five-time World Cup winners were stunned during a Quarter final tie with the Lucas Modric-led side on Friday, December 9, at Education City Stadium, Al Rayyan.
Brazil was the first side to take the lead on the scoresheet after Neymar pulled the trigger from the box following a goalless draw in the 90 mins of the game.
The PSG star was on the scoresheet in 105 minutes, but a brilliant teamwork from the Croatians saw Bruno Petkovic level the scores a minute later.
The match went into a penalty shootout which Croatia won convincingly with a brillaint 4-2 aggregate, in what showed the favourite an exit door out of the tournament.
Ikejabird gathers some of the reactions from the tie:
Saheehe Muhammed wrote on Twitter:
“It might be one of the best match of #FIFAWorldCup
First WHAT A GOAL by Neymar and then what a come back from Croatia, WHAT A GAME & What a World Cup this is❤️ Livakovic the hero.”
“Khan Karh wrote:
“Favorites for the tournament but didn’t look like it. Maybe time for a new manager, someone like Firmino could have unlocked the Croatia defence tonight. Croatia should have gone out to Japan but now are in the semis. What a World Cup we are having.”
Popular journalist Fabrizio Romano wrote:
“Neymar in tears, absolutely destroyed that heartbreaking loss at penalties.”
Meanwhile, it was a mixed feeling for Neymar who equalled Brazilian legend Pele’s 70 goals for the Selecao with his goal in the game.
