Responding to his tweets, another user shared explained that it was a tradition and culture in Bemba, (the northeastern plateau of Zambia and neighboring areas of Congo (Kinshasa) and Zimbabwe).
According to her, the bride who was dressed in a white and an Ankara skirt was proving to her in-laws that if she lost her limbs or hands, she can still cook for the family.
In the pictures that were revealed, the beautiful bride used her teeth to hold a cup and a pot as she goes down on her knees to cook.
“This is a Bemba wedding tradition, it’s used to prove that should the woman lose her limbs she can still be able to cook and take care of her husband. And yes it is a misogynistic practice,” the Twitter user explained.
Reactions: Thank God this is not practiced in Naija
The post had many social media users talking as most opined that it was too extreme. See some comments below;
@ChisomIbedu: Ha Nawa oo…. Thank God this is not practiced in Naija…. How and where will I start from to bring pot down?
@GangstaPeezay: Then we’re shocked with intense horror when a husband leaves a sickly wife. FORGETTING we are teaching men to only value women who ‘do-it-all’ regardless & anything else is a liability. In sickness and in health is only applicable for women 😪🤧 Miss me with that mess
@eekilaitoko: In most cases iam really for tradition and culture but there are some things in this word I really don’t understand and I really refuse to understand and support. Couldn’t be me but to each his own I guess….
@lizbethspace: What kind of rubbish thing is this? If this is the only thing that will make me not get married, so be it.
