Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy, on Sunday, February 5, failed to win the Grammy award despite having two nominations to his name in two different categories.
At the award gala held in Crypto.com Arena and hosted by South African-born comedian, writer, producer, political commentator, Travenor Noah, the ‘Last Last’ crooner lost his categories: the ‘Best Global Music Album’ and the ‘Best Global Music Performance’.
Meanwhile, Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, won her first Grammy Award at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.
The 27-year-old singer won the ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ category for her role in ‘Wait for U’, a 2022 hit song by Future featuring Drake.
Nigerians have since taken to social media to react to the award:
Larry wrote: “Keep your heads up Burna Boy! No Grammy today but you still remain the second and only Grammy award-winning Afrobeats artiste after Wizkid.”
Sola wrote: “One thing about Burna Boy, whenever he fails, he comes back harder, then win. I won’t be surprised if he gets his next Grammy next year. He’s that relentless.”
