The Dean of Students Affairs (DSA) at the University of Lagos, Professor Musa Obalola, has given his assurance to address the demands of the protesting students.

He revealed this during an interview with Ikejabird on Wednesday.

Recall that for two days, Unilag students staged protests outside the university gates, demanding a reduction in the obligations fees.

DSA assured that the university, along with student leaders, including faculty presidents, is actively working to address student concerns.

“We’re looking at their demands. I met with them on Sunday and I met with them yesterday again, and I think we’re making progress, but the University has the responsibility to deliver qualitative education that’ll enhance employability at graduation, and we’re committed to that.”

DSA confirms upward review of hostel fees

Prof Obalola also added that the condition of the University hostels is alarming, and the student leaders agreed on the urgent need for hostel renovations. Therefore, the hostel fees will be increased from 25,000.

“So they agreed with me, that there’s no doubt that there’s a need for us to review that fee upward. So we’re still in dialogue, we’re still working on that.”

The exact hostel fees was however, not revealed by him.

Meanwhile, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) students’ online demonstrations against the increase of obligatory fees, has prompted the school management to reconsider their decision.

According to the University of Lagos (UNILAG), they understand the nation’s current economic conditions, which is why it is necessary to lessen any difficulties that their students, their parents or guardians may encounter.
