Nigerian author and social media influencer, Reno Omokri has made headlines after he called Nigerian’s attention to some of the beauty standards that should be banned in the country.
In an Instagram post, the former presidential aide firmly stated that one of the ways to curb the inferiority complex in Nigeria is to ban wigs and bleaching cream.
According to him, Nigerians spend billions of dollars to import human hair annually and added that unknowingly to females who use this hair, much of these wigs are unwashed and untreated hair from Bangladesh.

He stated that there was no reason for these wigs as God already gave women their natural hair, he also spoke about the millions of naira that are used in importing and selling bleaching cream.
He assured that if a Nigerian woman with her natural looks stands side by side with a European woman, she would still stand out and will also be beautiful
Reno Omokiri asserted that the bleaching cream and hair that are being imported are a waste of money and should be banned.
Reactions: Before the importation of hair, what have we achieved?
While Reno Omokiri’s words were digested by Nigerians, they had a lot to say. Some agreed with him and said money should not be wasted on unnecessary things, others disagreed as they defended that nothing changed before wigs and the likes became a beauty standard and asserted that they are bigger problems in Nigeria than what he had mentioned. @kay_akpabio: The obsession with human hair among our girls is so alarming
@iam_therealdanolan: I thought Nigeria was a democratic and free society and not a dictatorship
@maudoka5: The same reason why you are in abroad not Nigeria. You should have believed your country is the best, accept it and stay back than to fly to a better country and condemn us for using their products, ode
@barbie_vyyloh: Leave Nigerian women and their choice of hair alone. I do not see how the sort of hair made by nigerian women should affect you. Out of all of the problems in Nigeria, hair is now a problem? If una no talk about Nigerian women, una no dey ever dey alright. For the creams i can understand because it poses a health hazard, but for what we choose to put on our heads, i dare say it’s none of your business. Leave us alone!!!!
@manshollay: Hundred percent with you. We import all sorts of nonsense, even with out scare foreign exchange. It’s difficult to comprehend. I read days ago that govt is increasing duty on imported beer and I was like, so we still import beer, with all the breweries in Nigeria? Do we have priorities at all?
