Drama unfolded today at the Federal High Court as the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) quarrel over the custody of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
After Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Lagos granted bail of N20 million to Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, a conflict occurred.

What caused the clash?
Emefiele’s lead lawyer and other attorneys were worried when they heard about the DSS’s intention to arrest him again.
The situation became even more complicated when prison officials tried to take him into their custody, leading to a heated clash between the DSS and prison staff.
Nigerians are reacting to the incident online as many criticise the two agencies for behaving like that.

Former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele charged to court by DSS following court order
In another news, The Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed that the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has been charged to court in compliance with an order issued by the Abuja High Court.
The DSS spokesperson, Dr. Peter Afunanya, announced the development, stating that the charges were based on suspected fresh criminal infractions/information.
DSS had previously applied for a court order to detain Mr. Emefiele in 2022, but he obtained a restraining order from the FCT High Court, which prevented his arrest.
