The University of Lagos (UNILAG) students’ online demonstrations against the increase of obligatory fees, has prompted the school management to reconsider their decision.
According to the University of Lagos (UNILAG), they understand the nation’s current economic conditions, which is why it is necessary to lessen any difficulties that their students, their parents or guardians may encounter.
Therefore, they’ve decided to implement certain measures to mitigate the effects of the increase. They’re:

- Payment by Installment: Instalmental payment options have been made available to all students. However, payment must have been completed at the point of registration for the second (2nd) semester of any session.
- Revitalisation of Work-Study Programme: The student work-study programme has been revitalized to accommodate increased remuneration. Interested students can access the program through the Dean, Student Affairs Division.
- Scholarship Opportunities: Students have the opportunity to access various scholarship schemes through the office of the Dean, Student Affairs Division.
- Assistance for Indigent Students: Subject to eligibility, indigent students will be assisted by the University. This will be accessed through the Dean, Student Affairs Division.
- Triple A Project: Measures have been put in place for alumni and well-meaning Nigerians to “adopt-a-student” under the Triple A “Adopt an Akokite” project.
- The University has deployed the “Pay for Mentors Project” for smart students.
- Partnership with Lagos Bus Rapid Transport System: To facilitate ease of transportation, the Management has secured approval from Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) for additional BRT dedicated routes to convey passengers from Berger Bus Stop axis and Oshodi/lyana Ipaja area of Lagos State respectively.
REACTIONS: WE WANT A REDUCTION
Although these measures have been put in place, students remain unsatisfied as they continue to push for a reduction of the obligatory fees.
@leywhar: These measures are not what we need, as a matter of fact they aren’t feasible. How many students can alummi adopt, students are over 15k. Don’t make this problem look less difficult, we demand a reduction!

Save Unilag students: Students protest hike in fees online
Students of the Federal University of Lagos, also known as Unilag, have gone online to protest against the hike in their school fees.
As reported by Ikejabird, the Federal University of Lagos, popularly known as Unilag, recently increased its school by over 400%, attracting the attention of everyone.
The hashtag #saveunilagstudents is currently trending on Twitter as students express their concerns and urge the university management to address the issue.
