During a visit to project sites in Lagos and Ogun, Works Minister David Umahi announced that the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is 98% complete and will be inaugurated in mid-September.
Umahi also revealed plans to use consultants to concession and toll all federal highways in the six geo-political zones.
He introduced night construction to expedite Nigeria’s highway projects, emphasizing the need for minimal discomfort to road users.

He instructed engineers to introduce night construction on critical sections of the Eko Bridge, stating that it would improve the pace of project delivery.
The minister stressed the importance of maintaining bridges to prevent collapse, as the cost of reconstruction would be exorbitant.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress of various projects, Umahi praised the quality of work done by contractors such as Raynolds Construction Company (RCC) on the Lagos-Ibadan project and Buildwell Plants and Industries Ltd on the Eko Bridge.
He assured contractors that outstanding fees would be paid promptly to ensure the timely completion of projects.

Umahi also commended Dangote for the quality of work and use of concrete on the Apapa-Oshodi-Ojota-Oworonshoki expressway project.
He expressed disappointment with the heaps of refuse along the project’s alignment and pledged to seek the assistance of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in addressing the issue.
The minister concluded the inspection tour by visiting the Dangote Refinery Road at the Lekki Free Trade Zone, where he reiterated his commitment to ensuring that all projects under his supervision are done with concrete.
