A US court is set to listen to arguments from lawyers who want to reopen a rape lawsuit against Cristiano Ronaldo, the famous footballer.

The original case started in 2018 but was dismissed in June 2022. However, the person who filed the lawsuit, Kathryn Mayorga, claims that Ronaldo and his associates breached a confidentiality agreement made in 2010, and she’s now seeking $25 million in damages.

Mayorga, who has agreed to be publicly named, alleges that Ronaldo raped her in a hotel room in Las Vegas in 2009. Ronaldo and his legal team have always said that the encounter was consensual.

In 2010, they both agreed to keep this matter private through a confidentiality agreement, with Mayorga receiving $375,000 as part of it.

Las Vegas authorities reopened their investigation into the case after Mayorga’s lawsuit in 2018. However, a year later, they concluded that there wasn’t enough evidence to prove the allegations.

A panel of three judges will hear arguments from both sides in Las Vegas, but it’s unlikely that a decision about reopening the civil case will be made immediately.
