Tragedy as ‘mentally’ unstable Police officer shoot colleague in Kano

Confusion trail Warawa Divisional Police Headquarters when a Police officer, Sergeant Basharu Alhassan was shot dead by his colleague, Inspector Ya’u Yakubu, a mentally unstable officer.
During introgation by the force, he claimed to have temporary mental issues.

The Spokesman for Kano State Police Command, Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the deceased and the Inspector had a misunderstanding and the Inspector fired a shot at the Sergeant.

Kiyawa added that the suspect said he did not know how he shot his colleague but remembered the deceased was laughing at him, stressing that he was out of his senses when he committed the act.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Sama’ila Dikko, has directed the suspect be subjected to medical test to ascertain his mental fitness while the case was transfered to the state CID’s homicides section, to enable discrete investigation.
