President Bola Tinubu has taken legal action to halt the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from disclosing documents related to him.
The move comes in response to the FBI’s intention to release confidential information from their databases to Aaron Greenspan, the owner of PlainSite, a website advocating for transparency and anti-corruption in public service.
In a motion filed on Monday, October 23, 2023, one of Tinubu’s lawyers in the United States, Bryan A. Carey, requested that the court prevent the FBI and IRS from releasing certain confidential documents to the public.

The lawyer argued that the defendants did not consider Tinubu’s interests, as the requested documents included the President’s private files, some of which are protected by law.
Furthermore, the lawyer sought a 30-day period to review all the files to ensure that any private and legally protected documents belonging to his client would not be disclosed.
This legal action follows Tinubu’s recent unsuccessful attempt to block a federal court in Chicago from releasing his academic records to Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
