President Tinubu has instructed security agencies to immediately rescue female students of Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State, who were abducted.

Last Friday, armed bandits abducted about 24 undergraduate students in Sabin Gida, a community located opposite the university’s main campus.

Fortunately, the Nigerian army engaged the bandits and rescued six female students during the abduction.

According to a recent statement by Ajuri Ngelale, his Special Adviser, Tinubu, denounced the kidnapping, stating that there is absolutely no justification for targeting students who are pursuing education.

“While the President wholeheartedly commiserates with all families directly impacted by this sad incident, he affirms that his administration has a solemn duty to protect every Nigerian citizen, and in line with this commitment, assures the families of the abducted students that no effort will be spared in ensuring their safe return.

“Furthermore, the President pledges that the federal government is determined to ensure that educational institutions remain sanctuaries of knowledge, growth, and opportunity, and totally free from the menacing acts of terrorists.”

Recall that in April, we witnessed yet another heart-wrenching incident where two female students from the Federal University, Gusau, were abducted by terrorists.

These cases serve as a stark reminder of the grave dangers that lurk in off-campus hostels. It is imperative that urgent action is taken to enhance the safety and security of students in such vulnerable environments.
