Tinubu approves removal of restrictions on students’ loans, asks universities to defer further increase in obligatory fees

The President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has recently approved new measures to help students who may be struggling financially.

The President on Monday, commenced this by removing all restrictions on the Students’ Loan.

This was made known on the official Twitter page of the President.

The statement read, “In line with his promise to ensure no Nigerian student abandons educational pursuits as a result of economic circumstances of their parents, President has approved the removal of all restrictions on the Students’ Loan, to make it available to any student or household that may desire it.

“Similarly, President Tinubu has directed the authorities in all Federal Institutions of higher learning to avoid arbitrary increase in sundry fees payable, and where possible defer further increases, so that parents and students don’t face too many difficulties.”

Tinubu also approved the provision of buses to students’ bodies in all higher institutions within the country.

“The desire of the President is to see that students can access their campuses without much difficulty as a result of higher transportation costs. The provision of the buses will also remove the burden of additional cost of daily commuting on parents and guardians.”

What do we expect: President Tinubu addresses the public tonight

Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to address the nation today, Monday, at 7 pm.

The announcement was made by his Special Adviser, Dele Alake, who urged TV, radio stations, and other media outlets to tune in to the Nigerian Television Authority and Radio Nigeria for the broadcast.

The purpose of the broadcast has not been disclosed officially, but it’s likely to address important issues like insecurity, food security, subsidy removal, and the planned industrial action by the Nigerians Labour Congress (NLC).
