The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Umuahia has delivered a verdict, ousting three members of the House of Representatives from the Labour Party (LP).

The tribunal’s rulings came on Monday following arguments presented by the petitioners, ultimately leading to the removal of the affected lawmakers.

Ibe Okwara Osonwa, representing the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency under the banner of LP, was unseated by the tribunal, which was presided over by Justice Adeyinka Adegberegbe.

Daniel Chimezie Okeke was declared the winner

The tribunal held that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Daniel Chimezie Okeke, successfully demonstrated that Osonwa’s election did not conform to the rule of law.

Consequently, the tribunal declared Daniel Chimezie Okeke of the APC as the rightful winner and instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw Osonwa’s certificate of return and issue a new one to Okeke.

Alex Mascot was also declared the winner

In a similar development, Emeka Nnamani, the representative for Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency, faced the tribunal’s ruling, leading to his removal from the Green Chambers.

The tribunal upheld the petition submitted by Alex Mascot of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), who raised concerns regarding Emeka Nnamani’s academic qualifications. As a result, Alex Mascot was declared the winner.

Munachim Alozie victory was nullified

Meanwhile, in Osisioma/Obingwa/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency, the tribunal nullified the victory of Munachim Alozie of the Labour Party (LP).

The tribunal ordered a re-run election to be conducted by INEC within 90 days.

The decision was based on the tribunal’s assessment that Munachim Alozie’s margin of victory was too narrow compared to the number of disenfranchised voters during the February 25 election.

The tribunal’s verdicts triggered jubilation among supporters of Daniel Chimezie Okeke in his hometown of Ututu, Arochukwu LGA.

In response to the rulings, Emeka Nnamani and Ibe Okwara Osonwa have reassured their constituents to remain calm, expressing their intention to take the necessary steps to retain their seats.
