Activist Timi Frank has criticized the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, for revealing that money had been sent to all senators by the National Assembly for their annual vacation. 

In a video message, Frank expressed his concerns about Akpabio’s statement and called for his resignation as Senate President.

Frank described Akpabio’s disclosure on national TV as a mockery of democracy and the Nigerian people.

A token was sent to the clerk of the National Assembly

He argued that it was insensitive for lawmakers to enjoy national resources for vacations when many Nigerians were facing economic challenges.

Akpabio had initially announced during a special session that money had been deposited into senators’ bank accounts to support their holiday. 

This statement caused disruptions among the senators, and Akpabio later rephrased the information, saying that prayers had been sent to their mailboxes for a safe journey.

Senator God’swill Akpabio must immediately resign

Frank called on President Bola Tinubu to take action in response to the Senate President’s statement. 

He criticized the alleged misuse of funds and called for Akpabio’s resignation, claiming that his actions were a mockery of democracy and a betrayal of Nigerians.

Frank also urged the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to suspend communication with the federal government until the demands of Nigerian workers, such as increased salaries, were met. 

He emphasized the need to end what he referred to as “Nollywood” acts in politics and called for Nigerians to prepare for a potential shutdown until Akpabio resigns from his position as Senate President.

Akpabio defeats Yari as he becomes Senate President

Meanwhile, senator Godswill Akpabio has succeded in defeating Senator Abdulaziz Yari making him the 10th Senate President.

The voting by the lawmakers elect was done on the building of the Nigerian Senate, in the build-up to the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly.

According to Vanguard, Senator Godswill Akpabio who was the Governor of Akwa Ibom was nominated by Senator Ali Ndume after he read the biography of the now President of the Senate.
