The Nigerian queen of Afrobeat, Tiwa Savage openly shared the challenges she faced while schooling and how she rose to overcome them.

In her speech, she opened up about several problems she experienced while growing up and as a student.

She recounted her struggles as a child after moving to the United Kingdom as well as at the University of Kent.

In a video of the event, Tiwa could be seen dressed in academic robes as she delivered her acceptance speech.

In a tear-jerking speech, the award-winning musician talked about the ordeals she faced as an immigrant in the UK.

She disclosed that she endured bullying in school and ran away from home on a few occasions, as a result of her emotional pain.

“I failed at a lot of things actually, I was bullied at school severely when I moved to the UK, I ran away from home a few times, I was suspended a few times from school,” she recounted.

Furthermore, the singer spoke about how she has been “ridiculed a couple of times” across the globe.

Rise and rise, never looking back

However, despite all the struggles, she succeeded in becoming a “leading figure” in Afrobeats and has been recognised internationally.

“But this same girl went on to become a leading figure in the global phenomenon called Afrobeats. And some call me queen but it’s Doctor Savage from now on,” she added.

In rising, she graduated with two degrees and became the first female African woman to win the MTV EMA awards.

She has also covered many international magazines including billboards, and become the first female artist to be signed by pepsi.

Tiwa completed her first degree in Accounting at Kent varsity and later enrolled at Berklee College of Music where she graduated with a degree in professional music in 2007.

Meanwhile, Nigerian singer, songwriter, and performer, Tiwatope Savage, popularly known as Tiwa Savage, has issued an official statement on the recent robbery incident at her residence in Ikoyi, Lagos state.

This statement was made after the news of the robbery spread online but wasn’t confirmed by the music crooner herself.

Tiwa Savage finally confirmed the incident via her official Instagram page on the 14th of April,2023. In the statement released Tiwa, stated that the suspected robbery attack happened on 13th of April 2023 but wasn’t successful.
