A Twitter user Ikechukwu Udebuani Manuell has sparked controversy centred around the misogynistic nature of Nigerian men.

According to Ikechukwu, there’s a certain dislike or prejudice against women, which is present in every Nigerian man.

He wrote, “Hard pill to swallow! There’s a bit of misogyny in almost every Nigerian man. If you were raised here, then you are likely a product of the system.

Reactions: Don’t generalize it

Ikechukwu’s tweet met with some agreement, as well as some criticism, as many accused of him of making generalisations. Here are some comments:

@shaibu_mon89626: It’s just how things ought to be. It is not belittling. There can never be equal playing field for both genders because they are 2 different genders. And just like any other 2 “somehow same” but different things that cannot do similar things, FEMINISM is a lost battle.

@wordofreason: Not just Nigerian men. If you’ve lived abroad, you will know that most men around the world are the same. The only difference is some countries have laws that protects women’s rights in case of divorce.

@lux6629: Because they carry too much financial loads in the marriage unlike western men you are referring to, change the narrative and see naija men brace up.

@iam_bmodel: If you are a misogynist, say that you are a misogynist, don’t come and generalize it. Nigerian men wey love Nigerian women like say tomorrow no dey.

@talktoyossy: Many, yes but almost I don’t agree with. If you’re from a loving family where genuine love lives and not learn red pills attributes you will behave better to women.

@o.l.a.y.i.n.k.a._: The way people generalize and speak on behalf of people ehn, man you don’t even know 1 percent of all Nigerian men, yet you’ll blindly come into conclusions and spew rubb!sh?
