As the country moves towards the festive period of the year, the United States has said that according to intelligence reports there might be potential terrorist strikes within Abuja and some other northern parts of the country.

They further urged their diplomats, citizens to immediately evacuate from these red alert zones.

Subsequently, many diplomats, foreign citizens have since been storming the airports to leave while many Nigerians are now living in fear in relation to these directives from the US.

With limited resources to make moves away from their homes at this exacting time, Ikejabird has a list of ways Nigerians can stay safe around these zones.

1. Be alert

Panicking would make things worse or even cause more harm than expected. But be alert about movements of strange people and events during this festive period.

2. Run, if you can

In any situation of a possible attack, citizens should immediately seek refuge by running away from the attack.
Taking to heels should be clear enough and attack spots should be identified before doing such, to avoid running to it.

3. Don’t expose yourself

Find cover against explosives and physical contacts to assailants. Get yourself to a position of cover and remain until help comes.

4. Put your phone on silent

Avoid alerting the attacker by putting your phone in a way that would make sounds, but instead switch your phone to silent while you hide from such attacker.

5. Inform people around, and discourage them from going to danger zones

While moving away from the threat, summon those you can tell about the potential threats. This will save more people and also reduce the casualty rate.

6. Call Emergency numbers

After finding safety, ensure you call necessary emergency service numbers such as the security operatives, rescue, and search teams among others to help those victims and protect others.

7. Hands up when security personnel arrives

It might be hard for security personnel to differentiate threats as terrorists dress and disguise as harmless citizens. To avoid being caught in cross fire, it is expected you show a surrender hands to help them distinguish you.

Since these directives of these attacks have been made, many Nigerians have called on federal government for more safety measures while many businesses have suffered low patronage.
