TEACHERS DAY: WE FEEL LIKE KINGS AND QUEENS

By Ejiofor Toochi Cynthia and Chiagoziem Abosi

Teachers impact heavily on the lives of students. They nurture, guide, train and many people have become successful because of the excellent training provided by teachers. They are not always appreciated enough for the value they give, which is why IkejaBird took the liberty of visiting teachers in Middle Saint’s Nursery & Primary School in Mende, Maryland to show appreciation.

The Proprietor, Mrs Akinsanya, expressed her surprise at the gift items presented to her and the teachers, “we’ve not been appreciated like this before, I’m grateful and overwhelmed with joy.” She stressed the role of teachers in the society as being vital. To her, teacher’s day is very important in the society, she believes they should be recognized, appreciated and appraised. “It should be a thing of joy in the society, both students and parents should celebrate. Without a teacher, people are not learning, and there’ll be total darkness. Knowledge is power and every child is given that power through learning.”

As the head teacher, Mr. Kayode (Uncle K), puts it, “It’s a day teachers look forward to because it’s a day we feel like Kings and Queens; we feel appreciated.” Although he believes that observing Teacher’s day once in a year isn’t enough, it could be done every term in a session. He expressed gratitude to IkejaBird for making the day extra memorable by taking the time to visit the school, and to the parents for their efforts in going above and beyond to express their gratitude.
