Every great story has a beginning, a turning point, and a moment when you feel that something big is happening. For the Super Eagles at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, that story started with our opening match, where we edged Tanzania in a tense group clash, then held our own against Tunisia in a thrilling 3-2 win that sent waves across the tournament.
But last night in Fès, the Eagles didn’t just win. They soared.
Nigeria delivered a convincing performance to beat Mozambique 4-0 in the Round of 16 and seal a place in the quarterfinals of AFCON 2025.
This wasn’t a cautious victory. It was dominant.
From the First Whistle to the Last
Right from the start, it was clear that Nigeria meant business. In the 20th minute, a measured attacking build-up ended with Ademola Lookman calmly slotting the ball home to give the Super Eagles the lead.
Five minutes later, Victor Osimhen doubled the advantage with a quick strike from close range, showcasing his sharp instincts inside the box.
Nigeria came out firing after the break, and Osimhen was at it again, finishing expertly in the 47th minute to make it 3-0.
Then, as the stadium buzzed with excitement, Akor Adams put the final gloss on Nigeria’s performance with a powerful strike in the 75th minute, completing a very deserved 4-0 win.
It was a complete showing from the Eagles, clinical in attack, composed in defence, and confident throughout the ninety minutes.

A Historic Step Forward
This win was not just another result. It marked a breakthrough moment for the Super Eagles at AFCON 2025. After seeing off Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda in the group stage with solid performances, this dominant victory over Mozambique showed that Nigeria is not just surviving in this tournament, we are competing with real authority.
Mozambique, making their first knock-out stage appearance in this tournament, fought hard but were ultimately outmatched by a Nigeria side that looked sharp, hungry, and connected.
With this result, Nigeria now heads into the quarterfinals, a stage we have reached only a few times in recent years. The Eagles await either Algeria or DR Congo as they continue the push for the AFCON title.
But the Story Isn’t Over Yet
This run feels special. From early group stage struggles in past tournaments to this moment of attacking flair and defensive strength, Nigerian fans are talking. Optimism is back. Confidence is rising. The dream of lifting the trophy feels closer than it has in a long time.
So, we ask you:
Are we finally back in the big conversations for AFCON glory?
Do you think Nigeria can go all the way and win this tournament?
Or do you feel this is classic Nigerian football exciting in bursts, but bound to hit a wall?
Drop your thoughts in the comments because the whole country wants to know.
