In a deeply moving testimony shared at a Living Faith Church in Ibadan, a Nigerian man recounted his painful experience of being wrongfully arrested a decade ago after attending a football match. 

The man named Martins revealed that he was returning from a football viewing center in 2013 when he was arrested by the police.

Despite his attempts to ask about his alleged offense, he was denied the chance to speak, provide a statement, or contact his family and was charged to cout by a police officer named ASP Diko.

He was wrongfully accused 

Surprisingly, during the court proceedings, he was accused of being an accomplice to murder and armed robbery, with another person’s name being wrongly associated with the crimes.

While, in prison he stumbled upon a flyer that inspired him to spread the gospel among his fellow inmates. 

Thankfully, in 2023, Justice, Development, and Peace Commission took up his case and proved his innocence, resulting in his release from prison. Tragically, he lost his wife and mother during his wrongful imprisonment.

Nigerian Man Regains Freedom After Spending Five Years in Prison For No Reason

In another story, Headfort Foundation, a criminal justice reform organization based in Lagos has narrated how one Lucky Abu spent six years in prison for no reason.

The organization revealed that Lucky was arrested in 2017 at Ajegunle during a series of raids by the police.

The 26-year-old was later charged to court for capital offense of armed robbery with two others and was remanded in prison.
