The use of technology has grown over the years in Nigeria, with many people embracing the use of gadgets for work and play. It has spurred the development of the popular “Computer Village” located at Ikeja. Here several individuals and companies offer sales and repairs of phones, laptops and other gadgets.
Noncho Gadgets
Noncho Gadgets is one of the fastest growing and trusted gadget businesses in Computer Village and is owned by Okereke Victor Chinonso. He was born in Abia State and graduated from Michael Okpara University with a BSC in Chemistry.
His desire to own his own company had always been a dream he cherished and motivated him to establish “Noncho Gadgets” in 2015 after graduation. Since then, his business has grown rapidly over the years due to his professionalism and outstanding service rendered to his clients.
Ikeja bird was privileged to have an exclusive interview with him.
May we know you?
My name is Okereke Victor Chinonso, the CEO of Noncho Gadgets located at No.8, Idowu lane, Computer Village, close to Ikeja Underbridge. I deal on all phones, laptops, gadgets and accessories.
Why did you establish an office in computer village?
It is easier for customers or clients to purchase gadgets from a gadget business located within computer village as it is the home of technology and gadgets. So having my business here connects me with a lot of clients, both new and old.
Are you a graduate and why choose this line of business?
Yes, I am a graduate of Michael Okpara University where I studied Chemistry but I have always wanted to own my own business hence I went to school because education is important. After graduation I ventured into the gadget business.
What is the minimum capital someone can use to startup a gadget business from your experience so far?
I did not have the capital when I started so I had to start from the streets, selling at a small pace but was very honest and genuine with clients by selling original gadgets. My clients increased at a point and that enabled me to get the needed capital as at then to start up fully at computer village.
However, if you have capital to start, I advise you start by purchasing lower laptops or gadgets that can sell off quickly.
As a new gadget business, is it advisable to start outside computer village or within computer village even if you have the capital.
It depends on your pocket. Just ensure you get information about the gadgets you want to buy, the suppliers of the gadgets and get a good location within or outside computer village but preferable within computer village because the office space prices vary so you can get something that can match up to your start-up capital.
Do you have any regrets so far?
No.
Do you get profit on a daily or weekly basis?
Profit is made daily because it is a lucrative business.
What advice would you give people out there who want to be self employed or probably have a gadget business like you?
If you do not have the capital to start, gain the knowledge of the business, learn about phones, laptops, the features, suppliers, pricing, how to source for clients, networking and have a good reputation.
Based on the current economic situation, are you facing any challenges in the gadget business?
Well, people are not really buoyant to buy gadgets because they need to sort out other basic necessities of life before thinking of getting gadgets so it has affected the business a little.
How can new clients purchase gadgets from your company if they can not come to computer village?
Clients can call or chat with me on 07033692792 and the samples of their order would be sent via whatsapp for confirmation. They can also reach me on jiji.com with my business name as I do have a client base there as well as orders.
My company also offers payment on delivery service which means you get to see your item before making payment. Once payment has been confirmed, the gadget would be released to the client.
