Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has said he is alarmed by the rate of killings and kidnappings in the country.
He spoke at a lecture entitled: “The Politics of Black Intellection and Creativity”, at the University of Pennsylvania, United States.
His lecture was the first of the newly inaugurated Distinguished Lecture in African Studies.
Soyinka said: “I have been under a state of shock for a couple of decades. So it was time I took my revenge and hopefully shock our own people just for exchange.”
The Nobel Laureate expressed fears on the spate of the incidents.
He slammed the government and the people who, according to him, had not shown enough determination to tackle both issues.
He also chided the protests by some Ile Ife natives over the appointment of Prof. Adebayo Bamire as Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).
The protesters had shown anger that an indigene of Ile-Ife was not appointed OAU VC.
He slammed the protesters. He described the protests as “crazy”.
