Vice President Kashim Shettima led the inauguration of a significant initiative in Sokoto State on Monday, September 11, as the state government distributed N5.1 billion worth of palliatives and unveiled vehicles valued at N16.8 billion.
These efforts are in line with the Federal Government’s response to the fuel subsidy removal, designed to provide relief and support to Nigerians.
The palliatives, comprising essential food items such as rice, maize, and millet, were distributed to assist the poor and vulnerable individuals in the state.

Ahmed invested about N11.8 billion
Vice President Shettima commended Governor Ahmed Sokoto for his dedication to improving the lives of those in need.
He also hinted at the Federal Government’s plans to introduce additional palliative measures to alleviate the impact of subsidy removal and economic challenges.
Governor Ahmed Sokoto disclosed that the state government invested N11.8 billion in the purchase of vehicles, including 50 buses and 20 Toyota Camry cars, intended for city, intrastate, and inter-state transportation services.
These vehicles aim to facilitate the movement of goods and services within and beyond the state.
The state spent another N6.6 billion
Additionally, the state allocated N6.6 billion for 20 Buffalo patrol vehicles and 50 Toyota Hilux vehicles, distributed to security agencies to enhance their operations.
The BUA Group also demonstrated their commitment to the state’s security by donating 10 luxurious pickup vehicles.
Governor Sokoto emphasized that the distribution of grains would cover all 23 local government areas in Sokoto State and that beneficiaries would be chosen impartially by a committee of prominent individuals.
The Vice President also commissioned the Rijiyar Doruwa flyover, a project undertaken by the Sokoto State Government at a cost of N5.3 billion.

President Tinubu, Shettima addresses fuel subsidy palliatives distribution
Meanwhile, president Bola Tinubu recently had an important meeting on Wednesday night with key leaders to address the problems caused by removing fuel subsidy in Nigeria.
Some of these key leaders are the Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and members of the Nigeria Governors Forum, came together to finalize arrangements for the distribution of palliatives.
To help those affected, President Tinubu and his team discussed ways to give aid packages, called palliatives, to the people who need them.
