Astha Rajvanshi, a writer for Time magazine, has locked her Twitter account after receiving criticism for including Nigeria’s president-elect, Bola Tinubu, on the latest Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world.
The article Rajvanshi wrote for Tinubu painted his role as a “longtime political power broker” and his efforts in helping to restore Nigeria’s democracy in 1999.
However, many Nigerian Twitter users, who are mostly supporters of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, known as ‘Obidients’ lambasted the writer for decorating Tinubu’s contentious political career, which includes allegations of corruption and a drug case in the United States, among others.

Netizens criticizes writers
In response to the backlash, Astha Rajvanshi locked her Twitter account and has not commented publicly on the matter.
Some have also questioned the criteria used by Time 100 in selecting its list, arguing that it lacks transparency and accountability.
Despite the criticism, Tinubu’s supporters were in support of his inclusion on the list and claimed it was proof that he will be a good leader, and it shows his political influence not just in Nigeria but around the world.

Why? Chimamanda Adichie drags presidential-elect
Renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Adichie has reportedly dragged Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Governor of Lagos state, to the President of the United States over allegations of heroin trafficking in Chicago.
Adichie dragged Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Biden and informed him about Tinubu’s alleged involvement in heroin trafficking charges in Chicago and how he forfeited $460,000.
She published an open letter to President Joe Biden in The Atlantic titled “Nigeria’s Hollow Democracy”. Adichie confronts the question of why Americans keep congratulating the winner of Nigeria’s disastrous election in February.
