Sergio Ramos,  former Spain defender, announced his return to his hometown club, Sevilla, after 18-years.

Ramos, who had been a free agent since leaving PSG earlier this summer, was linked with moves to Turkey, Major League Soccer, and Saudi Arabia but chose to return to the club he left nearly two decades ago.

“It’s a very special day. Returning home is always a tremendous joy. Now, we have to complete the medical.

Ramos is happy with his decision

I’m happy to return and eager to contribute as soon as possible, which is the most important thing,” said the 37-year-old Ramos to the media.

Sevilla currently sits at the bottom of La Liga without a point after three matches, but as Europa League champions, they have qualified for the Champions League group stage, with their campaign starting on September 20th.

Ramos originally left Sevilla at the age of 19 to join Real Madrid for a then-record fee for a Spanish defender.

Ramos receives offer from Al Ittihad

In 2021, he signed for Paris Saint-Germain but had been without a club since his contract with the French champions expired in June.

Reports suggest that Ramos had a lucrative offer from Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, but he was determined to return home to Sevilla, where he was born on the outskirts of Seville.

During his 16 seasons at the Bernabeu, Ramos achieved remarkable success, winning La Liga five times, the Champions League four times, and the Champions League four times.

He also earned 180 caps for Spain, scoring 23 goals and being part of the teams that won the European Championship twice (2008 and 2012) and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Stamford Bridge has fallen: Chelsea lose at home to Forest Boys

In another news, Chelsea’s unbeaten home record under manager Mauricio Pochettino ended when Nottingham Forest’s Antony Elanga scored the lone goal, securing their first win at Stamford Bridge since 1995.

Although Chelsea had a promising start, Nottingham Forest’s strong defense made it challenging for them to find the net.

Mauricio Pochettino had to make an early substitution in the second half, replacing captain Ben Chilwell with Noni Madueke and introducing Cole Palmer for his debut.
