Cancelling the Isese festival, a Yoruba cultural ceremony held annually in a specific town in Ilorin, Kwara state, by the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, has sparked a lot of reactions among Nigerians.
The decision of the Emir of Ilorin to cancel the annual Yoruba festival in the town has sparked strong criticism and mockery from netizens, who took to Twitter to express their frustration.
Wole Soyinka also criticised the Emir for reportedly banning the Isese festival, an important Yoruba cultural event, from taking place in the capital city of Kwara State.

Nigerians condemn the actions of the Emir of Ilorin
While some people are angry, viewing this action as an attempt by the Fulani people to suppress Yoruba culture in Kwara State.
A significant others are comparing this to what happened during the elections where some netizens used the phrase “Yoruba Ronu” as a way to tell Yorubas to vote for a fellow Yoruba.
A Netizen particularly said : When Ronu meets Ronu, where are the Yoruba Ronu that were ranting during the election period.
Another netizen said in a tweet:Can you imagine? A visitor, an invader who entered your God-given land, now controls your culture and dictates its fate! Isn’t this a disgrace?”
