Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has announced his retirement from international football on Wednesday.
The French defender won the highest trophy in international football in 2018 when he lifted the world cup in Russia.
The defender officially announced his retirement from international football in a post on Instagram on Wednesday.
Varane said: “Representing our great country for a decade has been one of the greatest honours of my life. I’ve been contemplating this for several months and deciding it’s the right time for me to retire internationally. I will miss these moments with you for sure, but the time has come for the new generation to take over. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.“
The 29-year-old recorded 93 caps and made his first national team appearance in 2013. He also helped his team reach the final in 2022.
