President Bola Tinubu has reassured Nigerians that there are no plans to raise the price of fuel, known as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), across the country.
The statement came after a meeting between President Tinubu and his media adviser, Ajuri Ngelale, where they discussed the ongoing concerns about fuel supply and potential price increases.
The President’s media adviser clarified that the government is committed to maintaining the current pricing of fuel and that there is no intention to reverse the deregulation policy that has been put in place.

Tinubu is aware of the strike threat
Deregulation means that market forces play a role in determining fuel prices.
Ngelale also mentioned that President Tinubu is aware of the recent strike threat issued by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and considers it to be premature.
The President believes that all stakeholders should gather accurate information about the state of the petroleum industry before making any conclusions or taking any actions.
This assurance comes after the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited also stated that there are no plans to increase the pump price of petrol.
The NNPC urged Nigerians to disregard any speculation about an impending price hike.

NNPC debunks rumour
Meanwhile, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has denied rumours about raising the price of fuel.
This response from NNPC came after reports in the media suggested that the company might raise the price of petrol from the current N617 per litre to somewhere between N720 and N750 in the upcoming weeks.
This rumour caused an uproar on social media as Nigerians lamented how they would survive with any hike in the price of fuel.
