The President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu traveled to Cotonou to participate in the Republic of Benin’s 63rd independence anniversary.
He arrived on Tuesday morning and was warmly received by President Patrice Talon and other top government officials.
The President was accompanied by some of his political aides and six governors, namely Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq (Kwara), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), and Mohammed Umar Bago (Niger).

They have seen each other three times
This visit marks the third time President Tinubu and President Talon have met since the latter became president.
Their previous meetings occurred during the summit on New Global Financing Pact in Paris, France, and the 63rd Ordinary session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS in Guinea-Bissau.
Recently, they also met in Abuja to discuss political developments in Niger Republic, where President Talon invited President Tinubu for the anniversary celebration.
We need to strengthen economic relation
During their discussions, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of reviewing and strengthening cultural, trade, and economic relations between Nigeria and Benin Republic.
He specifically highlighted the need for joint border patrols by Customs and harmonization of regulations at the border to facilitate smoother relations.
The visit signifies the willingness of both leaders to work together for the betterment of their countries and the region as a whole.

Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the newly elected Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), has unveiled his ambitious plans to revolutionize the region’s economic and political landscape.
Tinubu’s focus is on the need to promote economic growth within ECOWAS.
He plans to develop detailed economic plans tailored to the specific needs of the region, with a strong emphasis on encouraging trade and investment among member countries.
