Ex Big Brother Naija housemate Gifty Powers has slammed people who tag their parent’s upbringing as the reason they’re well behaved.
According to Gifty, it’s the child that chooses their path.
She shared this on her Instagram story on Monday.
She wrote, “I see videos of girls misbehaving and quickly rum to the comment section to see the reactions of people and them be like “I thank God for parents wet raise me”…” I’m proud to raised by my mom.
“The truth is that y’all chose that path of becoming good. You made that choice of becoming a good child. Now, Pikin wey wan spoil go definitely spoil, no matter how una wan sugar coat it, that pikin go turn bad belle.”
Reactions: Parents can do what they can
Gifty’s comment sparked lots of controversy online as to whether the parent’s upbringing, or child, has more influence on the latter’s behaviour. Here are some comments:
@ImIfeanyion: Parenting plays a vital role, but it’s not the sole determinant. Nature and external factors also shape a child’s behavior.
@arasmarty: Parents have roles to play same as society and the internet. There’s nothing like “pikin wey go spoil go spoil.” Parents have their duties. Once done properly. It has its influence to a large extent.

@babyboyjesse1_: She’s right tho. It’s an African mindset when people think parenting is responsible for 100% of who you are. You grow up with your own beliefs, your own mindset. Your own choices. Parenting has nothing to do with that.

Comedian AY reacts as fire guts his Lagos house
In other news, Nigerian comedian AY, also known as Ayodeji Makun, got everyone scared after his Lagos crib caught fire on Sunday.
The news about his Lekki mansion ending in flames quickly blew up online. While AY hasn’t officially spoken up about it, his fans flooded his social media with love and support.
This viral video from a user @Postsubman shows AY’s house completely ablaze – like, the roof was on fire, no joke! AY’s wife and two kids were out of the country when this happened.
