Petrol Souvenir: Court Sentences Prime Suspect To Two-Year Jail Term

Ms. Ogbulu Pearl, a socialite, was convicted by a Lagos Special Offences Mobile Court sitting in Oshodi for distributing Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, as a party souvenir.

On March 14, the defendant was arraigned for the offence of distributing PMS as a souvenir during her installation party on March 5.

Chief Magistrate Kehinde Ogundare sentenced the defendant to three months in prison or a N15,000 fine on the first count of the charge after she changed her plea from “not guilty” to “guilty.”

On the second and third counts of the charge, the magistrate also ordered the defendant to pay a N1 million fine or face two years in prison.

Magistrate Ogundare ruled that the prosecution had proven the defendant’s charge beyond a reasonable doubt and thus convicted and sentenced her accordingly.

The offences violates section 251(1), 168 (1), 244 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and Section 195 (2)(b) of the Environmental Management Protection Law of Lagos State 2017.
