In a statement released today, Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, has condemned the arrest and alleged torture of Comrade Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), in Imo State.
Obi expressed his shock and concern over the incident, stating that it reflects the deteriorating state of affairs in the country.
The former Governor of Anambra State, emphasized that the attack on Ajaero highlights the prevailing lawlessness, impunity, criminality, and rascality that have engulfed Nigeria.

He stressed that such incidents should worry every discerning mind, as they contradict the aspirations of Nigerians for a better and more just country.
The LP flagbearer firmly stated that the abuse of power and the reckless violation of citizens’ rights through acts of impunity have no place in the New Nigeria he envisions.
He called for a society where the rule of law is upheld and citizens’ rights are respected.

Meanwhile, Tony Ejiogu, who’s running for governor in the 2023 Imo state election under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), expressed deep sadness over a violent incident in Owerri.
The incident involved an attack on the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero.
Ajaero had come to Owerri to organize a peaceful protest rally for Imo workers, but things took a violent turn. Allegedly, some troublemakers disrupted the protest, leading to an assault on protesters and labour leaders.
