Old notes remain valid till 2023: Aisha Buhari finally breaks silence, supports Tinubu

Amid intrigues trailing the politics of Nigeria towards the 2023 general elections, Aisha Buhari, Nigeria’s First Lady and wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, has finally broken silence on the controversies surrounding the naira redesign and scarcity.

The first lady appears to have supported the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the forthcoming polls.

She shared a photo highlighting the blueprint of the former Lagos state governor in solving the current naira scarcity across the country.

In a post on her Instagram account on Wednesday, February 15, sighted by Ikeja Bird, Aisha said, “Tinubu knows the way.”

The picture also bears points on how Tinubu will solve the current naira scarcity, with the first lady also maintaining that the old naira notes should be valid till the end of 2023.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), through its governor, Godwin Emefiele, had announced February 10 as the deadline for the exchange and deposit of the old currency.

On Tuesday, February 14, the apex bank said the deadline was the final despite a court injunction banning the federal government from enforcing the deadline.
