Following the Central Bank of Nigeria’s statement that the old Naira notes are no longer legal tender, some Nigerians spoke of enormous difficulties.
Some have turned to social media to talk about how they found out that the old naira notes will no longer be accepted.
Others said they had to walk to a remote location because there was no money and those that were available were old.
IkejaBird gathered that many shops in Abuja have started rejecting the old cash even as new cash is not widely in circulation.
Reactions from Nigerians on Cash Crunch
Adesola Ikulajolu: “My ailing friend trekked for over 3hrs in Akure because the cab won’t collect old naira notes and that was what he just withdrew from the POS with N100 per N1000. He also couldn’t get to buy items because the old notes are now being rejected. Nigeria shall be great.”
David Onyemaizu: ” I wasn’t expecting less from the CBN. I knew that the moment banks were rejecting the old naira notes, folks that are still spending it are spending at their own risk. Emefiele & Buhari know what they are doing. Now, let’s see what the Supreme Court will do tomorrow.”
Andrew Ola: ” Useless country. New currency no dey. How can ppl survive in this country?? Banks don’t dispense the new naira notes. Transfers no dey go. Tueeh.”
Nnadi Princewill: “The banks are the cause of all these, now Buhari is saying they warned us three months ago but two or three weeks ago banks were dispensing old currency.”
Teminilan Ojo: ” Banks have started to reject the money around here too but people are still spending, we give traders new note but get old notes as our balance 😑 wahala no con too much bayi.”
