The Lamidi Apapa faction of the Labour Party (LP) has announced that it will not be endorsing Peter Obi as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

The faction advised Obi to seek another political party to pursue his presidential ambition.

Abayomi Arabambi, the spokesman for the Apapa faction, emphasized that the LP faction will not tolerate what they referred to as “rascality” in the 2027 election.

We will look for a fresh candidate

Arabambi stated,

“My advice is for him (Obi) to go and start preparing for 2027. But it has to be in another party, not in LP. We are not going to allow this kind of rascality to continue in 2027. We will look for a fresh candidate as far as we are concerned.

“Obi is free to go back to APGA to run, not Labour Party. We don’t want to continue accommodating a character who believes no other person, other than himself, has anything upstairs. He is not a good manager of human resources. That was why he lost woefully.”

He also criticized Obi’s alleged mismanagement of human resources, attributing his loss in the election to this factor.

Arabambi questioned Obi’s claims against President Bola Tinubu, highlighting the discrepancy in Obi’s educational qualifications.

They don’t own the Labour Party

Responding to the Apapa faction’s rejection, Yunusa Tanko, the spokesman for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, dismissed their threat and stated,

“They (the Apapa faction) don’t own the Labour Party. That’s why I don’t want to take issues with them. There is no need to give these people attention.”

The recognized faction within the party is led by Abure

In a statement from the LP National Legal Adviser, Kehinde Edun, it was clarified that the recognized faction within the party is led by Abure, not Apapa.

Edun labeled the Apapa faction as suspended members of the party and deemed their claims as baseless and comical.

He emphasized that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) holds the authority to monitor and accept nominations from the recognized National Executive Committee of the party.
