In a recent development, the Balogun of Eko, Abisoye Oshodi, has challenged the assertion made by the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, regarding the founding of Lagos.
The Oba of Benin had claimed that the Binis founded Lagos, citing historical records to support his statement.
However, the Balogun of Eko, in a video shared online, refuted this claim, stating that Lagos was never founded by the Binis.

They only settled in Lagos
Oshodi clarified that while the ancestors of the Oba of Benin settled on a small island called Eko, they did not create it.
He emphasized that the island had existed before the arrival of the Oba of Benin’s ancestors and had been inhabited by other tribes such as the Awori’s, Isheri’s, and Olofin’s.
He also pointed out that the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, had previously stated that Binis are not the owners of Lagos, despite the first Oba of Lagos being a male descendant of the Oba of Benin.
