The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has taken stringent security measures and has issued a warning to Nigerians against the spread of misinformation ahead of the PEPT judgment.

Tension is high as the long-awaited verdict of the Presidential Election Petition (PEPT), is set to be announced on Wednesday, September 6th.

The NPF, have however assured that security measures have been put in place for the protection of lives and property across the nation.

NPF statement

The statement released by the NPF Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Tuesday read,

“In its bid to fortify security architecture and forestall any breakdown of law and order across the country as a result of the forthcoming Presidential Election Petition Tribunal Judgment scheduled to be passed on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, the Nigeria Police Force has strengthened its deployment across the length and breadth of Nigeria.

“The NPF has diligently emplaced all necessary deployments and security measures during this critical period as officers and men are fully prepared to maintain order and enforce laws while respecting the rights and freedoms of all citizens.

“The Police wish to reiterate the commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property before, during, and after the judgment.

“Furthermore, the NPF strongly cautions all individuals, including mischief makers and political gladiators, to be cautious in their actions and statements as the Force will not condone activities capable of inciting violence or causing a descent into anarchy.”

The NPF also emphasized the importance of citizens maintaining peace and calm, regardless of their political affiliations.

“The Nigeria Police Force is dedicated to its duty of protecting and serving the Nigerian people and is committed to carrying out these roles with professionalism, impartiality, and utmost dedication. Together, we can ensure a peaceful and secure environment for all during this period.”

PEPT to deliver Presidential Election judgement on September 6th

Meanwhile, The Presidential Election Tribunal in Abuja is set to deliver its judgment on petitions challenging the election of President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, September 6.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, have both filed petitions before the PEPT, contesting the results of the February 25 presidential election, which saw President Bola Tinubu emerge victorious while running on the platform of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
