No salary increase approval for political office holders — Presidency debunk fake news:ikejabird.com

Contrary to the news circulating on social media, the Presidency issued a clarification on Thursday stating that President Bola Tinubu has not given his approval for any salary increment for government officials.

A statement signed by Dele Alake, the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communication, and Strategy, emphasised that President Tinubu has not approved any salary increase, and no such proposal has been presented to him for consideration.

The presidential spokesperson advised Nigerians to ignore news that doesn’t come directly from the presidential office, as some people might be using it as a scheme to undermine the government.

The president has not approved anything: Alake claims

The statement was released in response to reports that the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) had approved a 114 per cent salary increase for the President, Vice President, elected federal and state political office holders, and judicial officers.

However, it was clarified that while the RMAFC has the constitutional authority to propose and determine salaries and allowances for political office holders and judicial officers, such changes cannot take effect until they are considered and approved by the President.
