A building in the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, was ablaze yesterday, Friday, 28, 2023.

According to Vanguard, the fire did not spread across the building after immediate measures were taken by the State Fire Service Department and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ile.

The spokesperson of the king, Moses Olafare gave a statement and asserted that the fire happened around 11:30 pm and was caused when the electric power supply was suddenly restored, the electrical appliances immediately caught fire burning the building down.

He explained that to the glory of God, nobody was injured and the fire did not spread beyond the building as it was extinguished as soon as possible, he also shared that no cultural items were lost.

“A building apartment within the courtyard of the Palace of the Ooni Of Ife was, at about 11:30p.m. yesterday (Friday), engulfed in flames triggered by power surge which exploded through electrical appliances in the affected apartment”

“The inferno did not spread beyond the affected building located at a section of the palace premises. It was swiftly put out through the combined efforts of the Government Fire Service, OAU Fire Service and Palace Emergency Control Unit. No casualties or injuries were recorded, and no cultural items was lost. Thanks to the Almighty Olodumare,” he said

In another news, the sisters of Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja Il said, there is no iota of truth to the allegations that they interfere in the selection of the Ooni’s queens and are at loggerheads with his Oloris leveled against them.

This is coming after the monarch’s wife, Evangelist Naomi Silekunola, announced her separation from the monarch through an Instagram post on December 23, 2021 and some social media users pointed fingers at the monarch’s sisters accusing the royal sisters of causing the rift between their brother and Naomi.

However, in a statement titled, ‘Campaign of calumny against the Ooni of Ile Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja Il & the royal sisters reads;
