Nigerian student, Noel Ifeanyi Alumona short-listed for $100,000 2023 Global Student Prize

Noel Ifeanyi Alumona, a student who was born in Nigeria, has been shortlisted for the 2023 Chegg.org Global Student Prize

The winner of the over N79 million ($100,000) prize has made a significant effect on their community. 

Ifeanyi founded males Champions, a non-governmental organization that encourages males to abstain from violence against women, while he was a master’s student at Vanderbilt University.

According to a press release posted on the Global Student Prize website, Ifeanyi has utilized his NGO to assist in reorienting young people. 

Part of the release reads: “In 2018, he founded Boys Champions – a youth-led nonprofit organization supporting boys and men on their journey to manhood by teaching them positive masculinity and showing them how to relate to women respectfully. Boys Champions also brings books and educational resources to rural communities via a mobile library, with the aim of raising the next generation of future leaders.” 

Global Student Prize

Reacting to the news that he has been shortlisted for the global prize, he shared that he was thrilled. 

His words: “I am grateful to Chegg for providing a platform that empowers students like me to showcase our dedication to education, innovation, and positive change. The Global Student Prize has been an inspiring journey, and I am humbled to be part of a group of such talented and passionate individuals from around the world. 

“I look forward to the next stage of the competition and the opportunity to share my vision for a better world through education. Together, we can make a positive impact on society and pave the way for a brighter future.” 

The winner of the prize will be announced in August.

Medical doctor celebrates secondary school teacher during graduation

Meanwhile, during his graduation ceremony, a medical doctor became so emotional upon seeing his longtime secondary school teacher, Mrs Folorunsho (popularly known as Aunty Foly), in attendance. 

According to his tweet, he had no prior knowledge of her attendance and was very happy she showed up to celebrate with him on his special day. 

The doctor identified as Nochi was so moved by the presence of his beloved teacher that tears streamed down his face.
