Nigerian Man Denied Access to the President Stabs Guyanese Guard

Bethel Ikenna Chimezie, a Guyana-based Nigerian, was shot while attempting to illegally enter the president’s home on Thursday.

The 35-year-old worked at a cleaning firm in Georgetown, a city in Guyana before he was detained.

Chimezie was said to have walked to the president’s residence and demanded to speak to him. The security men did not grant his wish. Instead, they chased him out of the premises. Refusing to leave, the Nigerian decided to forcefully find his way in.

According to the Jamaican Observer, he pulled a knife and stabbed the security man five times in various parts of his body.

He was reported to have grabbed another security man’s pistol and fired several rounds.

The guards, in defense, also shot at Chimezie. He was injured in several parts of his body when he was finally captured.

Guyanese INTERPOL is currently accessing Chimezie’s previous history to determine if he had a criminal record.

Wendell Blanhum, the deputy police commissioner in Guyana, said he gave the order to INTERPOL to run the assessment.

Chimezie is reported to have undergone surgery and is currently unconscious due to the intensity of his injury.

It is yet to be made public the reason for the Nigerian’s attack and why he requested to see the president.
