At a press conference in Abuja, former Vice President Atiku praised Gani Fawehinmi for taking legal action against Tinubu and questioning his academic credentials 23 years ago.
Atiku also commended investigative journalist David Hundeyin for revealing Tinubu’s certificates from South West College and Chicago State University (CSU).
Atiku emphasized that verifying the credentials of candidates for higher office should be a quick process, not taking weeks or months. He stressed the importance of Nigeria’s reputation and expressed his commitment as a democrat to the country he loves.

He thanked lawyers, both in Nigeria and abroad, for helping clarify this issue, which has been ongoing for almost half a century. Atiku believes that Gani Fawehinmi’s efforts from 23 years ago have now been validated.
To provide some context, Atiku had filed a lawsuit against President Tinubu regarding Tinubu’s academic record at Chicago State University. Atiku sought documents to support his claim that Tinubu had forged his CSU certificate.
Although the presidential election court had dismissed some of these allegations, Atiku continued pursuing the case in the US court, hoping to obtain official documents to support his claims for a possible Supreme Court appeal.

Tinubu files application to halt release of academic records to Atiku
In another news, President Bola Tinubu has filed an application with the District Court to halt the implementation of a United States Magistrate Court’s order.
The order directed Chicago State University to release Tinubu’s academic records to Abubakar Atiku, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Tinubu argues that the magistrate court breached the constitution by acting as a final court in matters of discovery and contends that a magistrate’s role should be limited to reporting and recommending to the district judge.
