A human rights attorney from Nigeria, has won the $75,000 Waislitz Global Citizens’ Choice Award 2023 prize for her efforts to eradicate injustice in her nation.
The Waislitz Foundation, Global Citizen, Mesoblast Limited, and Unico Capital Holdings are the sponsors of the award.
Adeoye is the founder and executive director of Hope Behind Bars Africa, an NGO that offers free legal services and hands-on assistance to imprisoned impoverished people.

Additionally, it advocates for criminal justice reforms through technology, evidence-based advocacy, and research.
Adeoye claims that her organization has helped more than 17,000 people who are incarcerated through a variety of interventions.
Human rights laywer helps eradicate injustice
These include facilitating access to justice, giving welfare, support, and rehabilitation as well as reforming former convicts.
“With the Waislitz Global Citizen award, I plan to fully launch Justicepadi, a tech platform that will revolutionise legal aid in West Africa and expand the organisation’s work for justice-involved individuals,” Adeoye said in a statement.
The Waislitz Global Citizen Awards, which each year provide cash prizes totaling $250,000, honor people who have excelled in their efforts to alleviate extreme poverty. There are three awards totaling $100,000 for the top prize and another two prizes of $75,000 each.

Meanwhile, a Nigerian lawyer recently shared a story about his friend who is serving in the military, shedding light on the financial struggles soldiers endure.
According to the lawyer, his friend, who is currently a soldier, faced dire circumstances when he couldn’t afford to take care of his newborn baby.
Desperate for help, he reached out to the lawyer, who assisted him.
