Aishat Kabu Damboa, Executive Director of Girl Child Initiative has shared a photo of a Keke rider from Maiduguri, a local government in Borno state who had informed his passengers that he will only receive either the new naira notes or cash transfer for his services.
Aishat said it was a clear indication that the new withdrawal policy could work with the right attitude.
The girl child initiative director also believed that disagreeing with the new policy from the central bank of Nigeria may not be well thought out as the Keke rider is proving that it can be done.
“But we keep creating excuses that small and micro businesses might not accept transfers, so cashless policies are hard for the poor and can’t be implemented. Is this Keke Rider from Maiduguri proving us wrong or otherwise?” she said.
The CBN Governor, Godwin Emifiele earlier repeated that the old naira naira note will only be valid until January 31.
The President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari has also confirmed the deadline in a recent interview where he said 90 days is enough for the money to be swapped. He reiterated that the deadline will not be changed.
The All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu has criticized the policy saying it is an attempt to sabotage the forthcoming general election in February.
