December 2024 is packed with exciting new movie releases to close the year in style.
It’s a month filled with activities as families and friends come together for the holidays, and nothing completes the season like an unforgettable movie experience, whether at the cinema or from the comfort of home.
Here’s a list of new movies to watch this December, perfect for Nollywood and Hollywood fans alike.
Everybody Loves Jenifa
Directed by Funke Akindele and Tunde Olaoye, Everybody Loves Jenifa is a highly anticipated movie set to premiere in cinemas on December 13th. Starring Nigerian favorites like Nancy Isime, Stan Nze, Patience Ozokwor, Falz, Lateef Adedimeji, Jackie Appiah, Destiny Etiko, Layi Wasabi, and Omowunmi Dada, this movie promises comedy and drama that’s bound to be a hit.
Mufasa: The Lion King
This prequel to The Lion King, directed by Barry Jenkins, dives into the life of Mufasa, tracing his journey from orphaned cub to beloved king of the Pride Lands. Audiences will also get a deeper look at his relationship with his brother Scar (originally Taka). Featuring Aaron Pierre as Mufasa, Kelvin Harrison as Taka, and Thandiwe Newton as Eshe, this film is set to debut in cinemas on December 20th.
Christmas in Lagos
From producer Jade Osiberu, Christmas in Lagos brings the warmth and charm of holiday romance to our screens. It tells the story of Fiyin, who after a recent heartbreak, begins to believe her best friend Elo is her soulmate, and a 59-year-old caught in a love triangle between her longtime boyfriend and a high school sweetheart. Set to premiere on Prime Video on December 20th, it features a rich cast of Nollywood talent, including Shaffy Bello, Wale Ojo, RMD, Shalom C. Obiago, Rayxia Ojo, Teniola Aladese, and Afrobeats stars Waje, Adekunle Gold, Ayra Starr, and Ladipoe.
Sonic The Hedgehog 3
The high-speed adventures continue as Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails reunite to face a powerful new adversary, Shadow. Known for his mysterious and extraordinary abilities, Shadow challenges the trio in ways they’ve never encountered before. This animated adventure includes voice talents like Keanu Reeves, Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, Krysten Ritter, and James Marsden. It will be released on December 20th in Cinemas.
Thin Line
Produced by Mercy Aigbe, Thin Line promises an intense narrative with a popular cast, including Uche Montana Nwaefuna, Yvonne Jegede, Iyabo Ojo, and Uzor Arukwe. Though the trailer is still awaited, it is another of Nollywood’s anticipated December releases. It will be released in cinemas on December 13th.
