A young man has brought up a controversial topic after asserting that he’s going to do more than the mother of his children because he doesn’t want all his labor to be in vain.

A Twitter user, @uncleayo took to the microblogging platform to share and advise fellow men to give their children the best and to show them love.

According to him, he will never allow his partner to give his kids more presents or love than him. He explained that the reason why fathers end up not being loved as much as their mothers is because they are too stern with the kids.

While he explained that they meant well and wanted the best for their kids, he shared that he will do the opposite.

@uncleayo asserted that if his wife he’s giving his kids one thing he will give them 20, he stressed how he would hate to be painted as the bad guy by the kids all in the name of asserting his dominance as their father.

The young man stated that he would be his kid’s best friend, gist partner and will always be present in their lives as the good cop parent rather than the one who disciplines them.

“I’m NEVER allowing my partner out-present me in the life of my children. You’ll not out-gift me, either. It is party politics. I’ll not labor all my life to provide then end up in my 60’s as the bad guy with my children on Twitter saying “I wish my father was present” You take them to one ice cream trip, I’ll take them to 3 You buy them legos – next day, I’m coming home with video games”

“it is shocking the “little things” mothers were present to do while fathers were out making money – are the things that bonded us as children. I also have zero intentions of being the family’s terrorist – “I will tell your daddy for you”. I’m sorry, my dear – if we’re not reprimanding them together, I’ll tell them not to mind you,” he said.

Reactions: Child rearing is not a competition

The young man’s assertion had some netizens talking. While some agreed with him, others were not in support of his words as they argued that parenting is not a competition. See some comments below;

@ElemSunny: My bros, easy! Child rearing isn’t a competition. As the head of the family, your leadership qualities make all the difference in your kids in old age-they will remember your filminess yet kind & caring, your soothing words. Else the kids will become thankless & spoilt.

@monblaze: Lol. Love it! But there’s one part you missed out, the being present isn’t in the party & ice cream days. Its in the boring days, sad days, stay up all night bc you are sick, stay on immunization/school/whtever queue with you for hours etc. Thats the real test of being present 💚

@omoiyaelero0: The next generation of men will do better than our fore fathers. We will be better 😂

@Lexyzdoo: You won’t always be available for your children as a man, husband. Why not marry a woman who makes your presence felt in the life’s of your children even when you’re absence physically to safe you from all this unhealthy stress.

@osahoneric1: Are we competing now? Is this the model of what parenting is? It’s a union, the father and mother should work together creating balance. If this is the parenting model you want, it’s outdated. Let’s create a better model that work better with no one being left behind.

@Odun_is_my_name: Our culture teaches dt kids are dr 2 validate a woman’s presence in her husband’s life, dt childcare is a domestic activity dts beneath men & kids re dr 2 carry on d man’s fam. name, men re supposed 2 gain respect by being “fearful, distant & authoritarian”. Our culture is wrong!
