After reviewing USSD commands, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) prompted MTN Nigeria to make changes to the USSD code used to check your airtime account balance and provide updates for other commands.
Consequently, the well-known and legendary MTN USSD code, *556#, no longer functions as it did before. Instead, when dialling *556#, users now receive a prompt informing them that their dial was incorrect and asking them to select from a list of seven items the command they intended to use. The accompanying image illustrates the details of this prompt.
To check your airtime account balance using this new prompt, you will need to input the number 4. Additionally, as of today, May 18, 2023, if you wish to check your MTN airtime balance via USSD directly, you may need to dial the new USSD code *310#.
Other direct USSD to updates on MTN
The commands listed as 1-7 on the pop-up represent the new direct USSD codes for the corresponding services listed alongside them. Nevertheless, it’s important to note that the initial access codes for those services are still functional and can be used.
Therefore, users can either utilize the new direct USSD codes or continue using the original access codes to access the desired services.
