In a recent interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Osita Chidoka, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed his disappointment with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding its handling of the last presidential election.
Chidoka specifically criticized INEC’s inability to electronically transmit election results in real-time.
Describing INEC as a “monumental disgrace,” Chidoka expressed his shame in being associated with the organization as a Nigerian.
Chidoka asked for a third party verification for INEC system
He had previously called for third-party verification of the INEC system to ensure a glitch-free election day.
However, INEC later admitted to experiencing a glitch on the election day, despite not testing the system beforehand.
Chidoka further lamented that INEC’s struggle with this issue reflects poorly on the nation’s reputation among other countries.
He questioned why INEC couldn’t follow the example of countries like India and Indonesia, which conduct better elections despite having larger populations.
