Popular Nigerian singer, Spyro set tongues wagging after he raised concern about the lyrics of ‘Elon Musk’sand by his fellow artist, Shallipoppy.
Following his claims that he shouldn’t have used such words, particularly the phrase ‘Para dey body’ as this word could encourage fraudulent behaviours.
However, his comment didn’t sit well with some netizens, and amongst them was Joey Akan, an award-winning journalist, who accused him of being a hypocrite.
According to him, Spyro gained popularity after he worked with ‘worldly-adjacent artists’, he stated that instead of choosing his faith-based colleague for the ‘Who’s your guy’ remix, he chose Tiwa Savage.
Joey criticized that he attacks anything or anyone against God’s words but he benefits, and makes a living from these things he is antagonizing.
“He never fails to ceaselessly attack his colleagues, their professional output, and their themes of escapism and realism. Add that to a collaboration with DJ Neptune and Iyanya, two ‘worldly’ music stalwarts.
“He also will not grace his gospel podcasts, but try to harness numbers from a “worldly” podcast. Talking about how he hates the secular industry because he is “for Jesus.” While working in it, serving it, benefiting from it, and making a living out of it. I call hypocrisy. Promoting Jesus, but dining in the lucrative altars of mammon,” Joey said in a part.
Reactions: Make him gettat
The tweet had some social media users agreeing with him and some expressing otherwise. See some comments below;
@ad3tola: The way you use worldly as if he is talking about spirituality is beyond me. Not every music theme will be centered around Yahoo, drugs, and cultism. So he is not out of place. After all many criticize Wizkid for singing about women. He has a point. Don’t make it look like he is forming holiness.
@askAbureson: If he knows his bible well, he will know that it teaches him to ‘Judge Not’ but now he is being Judged because he ignored his bible to sound woke. Highest form of hypocrisy if I may say🥴
@DukeDarls: Person wey don perform for DNA night club but he’s always acting like one heaven saint full of holiness. Make him gettat
